Phenol, also known as carbolic acid, is a white, crystalline, volatile, and mildly acidic aromatic organic compound with the chemical formula C6H5OH. It consists of a phenyl group and a hydroxyl group attached to it. It is slightly soluble in water and readily soluble in many organic solvents. Phenol is corrosive and can cause chemical burns upon contact.
